New developments in #MedTech: #implants are dependent on a secure #energy supply and #ultrasound-based technologies are key to accomplishing that. Researchers at @Sungkyunkwan University showcased ultrasound-powered #nanogenerators (TENG) that can be used for #MedicalImplants – through applying mechanical power transmission that uses sound or vibration waves to create piezoelectric or triboelectric effects that in turn can generate voltage in their own way. There are additional benefits: ultrasound is ideal for medical applications as it passes through body tissue, liquids and metal more easily compared to electromagnetic waves. 🌿Information and communication technologies (ICT) are both a blessing and a curse when it comes to environmental impact. By 2030, they could be responsible for up to four percent of Germany's greenhouse gas emissions. New breakthrough in AI: Innovative chip revolutionizes in-memory computing. Based on ferroelectric field-effect transistors (FeFET), the AI chip can compute and store weights for computationally intensive applications such as deep learning and big data directly on the chip. This eliminates the need for time-consuming data transfers between the processor and memory, significantly improving efficiency and performance. Ferroelectric memory is the only non-volatile concept that operates purely electrostatically and is therefore very energy-efficient, since only recharging currents are required for writing data.
